When Tears Meet Hope
A moment of sorrow that slowly opens into something greater.
Mary Magdalene stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb and saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet where the Body of Jesus had been. And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”
John 20:11-12
Mary Magdalene stood outside the tomb, crying. In that moment, all she could see was loss. The teacher she loved was gone, and the empty tomb only deepened her confusion and grief.
Yet something important happens here. While she is still crying, she bends down and looks inside the tomb again. She does not turn away. She stays, even in her pain.
And that is where the angels meet her.
Sometimes our own faith journey looks similar. We bring our sadness, disappointment, or unanswered questions to God. We feel like something important has been taken away from us. In those moments, it may seem as if heaven is silent.
But Mary teaches us something simple yet powerful. She stayed. She looked again. And in that place of grief, heaven spoke to her.
God often meets us not after everything is resolved, but right in the middle of our struggle.
What Mary thought was the end of the story was actually the beginning of the greatest hope the world would ever know.
Have we ever walked away too quickly from a painful moment without bringing it to God?
What might happen if we stayed with Him a little longer, even with our questions?
Lord, when our hearts feel heavy and we do not understand what is happening, help us remain close to You. Give us the courage to seek You even through our tears. Remind us that Your work is still unfolding, even when we cannot yet see it. Amen.
