Not Left Alone
A promise that holds even when we cannot see
“I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.”
John 14:18-20
There are moments when God feels distant. Prayers seem to go nowhere, and life carries on as if we are left to figure things out on our own. In those times, it is easy to believe we have been forgotten.
Jesus speaks directly into that fear. He does not say life will always feel certain or easy. Instead, He gives something deeper. A promise that we are not abandoned.
‘I will not leave you orphans.’
An orphan has no one to return to. No one to call out to. Jesus makes it clear that this is not our story. Even when we cannot see Him, He is present. Not outside our lives, but within them.
‘You are in me and I in you.’
This is not a distant relationship. It is close, personal, and alive. His presence does not depend on how we feel in the moment. It rests on who He is and what He has already promised.
So when we feel alone, it does not mean we are alone. It simply means we cannot see the full picture yet.
Where in our life do we feel left on our own, and what would change if we truly believed He is still with us there?
Lord, there are times we feel alone and unsure. Help us hold on to Your promise that You have not left us. Remind us that You are with us even when we cannot see You. Teach us to trust Your presence in our daily lives. Amen.
