Do You Love Me?
A simple question that reaches deeper than we expect.
After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them, he said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” He then said to Simon Peter a second time...”
John 21:15-16
Jesus did not ask Peter about his past failures. He did not bring up the denial. Instead, He asked one thing. Do you love me.
Peter answered from the heart, even though he knew he had fallen before. And Jesus did not reject him. He gave him a mission. Feed my lambs.
Love was not just a feeling. It became responsibility. It became action.
We may think we need to fix everything before coming back to Him. But Jesus starts with love. Not perfection. Not a perfect record. Just a sincere answer.
And from there, He entrusts us with something meaningful. In small ways. In daily life. In how we care for others.
When Jesus asks you, ‘Do you love me?’, what is your honest answer today?
Even when I fall short, you still call me back.
Teach me to love you not just with words, but through how I live and how I care for others.
Help me to respond to your call, one step at a time.
Amen.
